B.B.King performed at Cook County Jail here in Chicago in 1970 -- and Sing Sing in 1972.
He played at more than 50 institutions and was an advocate for judicial reform.
He helped lead a change for inmates to receive credit for time served while waiting through trials -- reducing final sentence...

In August 2005, Cook Count jail banned smoking in the jailyard, and tobacco sold in commissary.
My immediate thought was "oh my gosh,these guys are going to wanna do anything they can to get out to have a cigarette"...
I thought this because unfortunately, I am a chain-smoker....
6 months later, 6 inmates escaped from the jail...
