Hi everyone, hope all is well. Here is a 5th hour suggestion that Keith McComb came up with Friday last week, & it was in honor of last Friday in 1912 when the Titanic set sail. The idea had stuck with me ever since, and he was wondering then, as I am now, if we can perhaps consider a 5th hour theme for today in honor of that historical moment. And doing so with songs about boats, sailing, ships, oceans, etc. Here are some suggestions I came up with:
For Classic Nautical & Sailing Songs (60s-70s):
- "Sloop John B" by The Beach Boys.

- "Southern Cross" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young
- "Sail On, Sailor" by The Beach Boys
- "The Wreck Of Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

- "A Pirate Looks at Forty" by Jimmy Buffet
- "Son Of A Sailor" also by Jimmy Buffet
- "(Sittin' On) the Dock Of The Bay" by Otis Redding

Ocean & Water Song:

- "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles

Jimmy Buffet: Almost all of his songs particularly from the 70s are ocean-centric.
Gordon Lightfoot: Notable for songs between the 60s & 70s about Great Lake Sailors
The Beach Boys (60s & 70s): Most if not all of their music is focused heavily on the ocean, surfing, & boat themes.
