Well, it wasn't actually forgotten. It's been played notably often on local stations that are or were attuned to such music. Local ones in the NJ/NY area like WCBS-FM played it during their hey days through the years as an actual oldies & greatest hits station. Other stations that still run such a format I've heard play it not too long ago as well, but Billy Idol's version on the other hand did knock the original version by Tommy James' group off the charts & out populated it the moment Billy recorded & officially released his version. So I can sort of understand why the original by Tommy's group had since felt forgotten.
