"Spirit in the Night" never even reached the Bubbling Under chart.
I remember hanging out with a friend at a radio station he worked for. (I later worked there) Although mainly an ethnic programming station, it got limited record service from a few major labels. They never played them and most likely got trashed. I claimed many! It was around June 1973 when a Columbia record came in titled "Spirit in the Night" by some guy named "Bruce Springsteen". I listened to it. I liked, I kept! I had a hunch about it. 2 years later he became a mega-star!
You'll see my original copy at the top of the "Listener Lounge" tonight when played!
The Manfred Mann 45 was out 3 times! Twice with the original lead, the third with Chris Thompson's replacement lead vocals.
When I first heard "Fire Lake" in 1980 I noticed the similarity.
These songs were played in a set not *too* long ago, but they're good to play again!
